Retainers after braces: why teeth like to drift

Teeth remember where they used to be. Retainers are how many people keep a new alignment.

Why teeth move

Bone and fibers around teeth remodel for months after braces or aligners. Without retention, crowding can creep back.

Removable vs fixed

Clear trays or wire retainers you take out, versus a thin wire bonded behind front teeth. Each has cleaning and comfort tradeoffs.

Care

Clean removable retainers as directed. Avoid hot water that warps plastic. Keep them in a case, not a napkin.

Occlusivo note
